The Third Light of Advent is the Light of Animals.

The light that shines in the greatest and the least.

Animals are receivers of energy and are probably best known by those of you who have pets. You'll recall those times when you were sick or “just blue“ and your pet curled up beside you and made you feel better.  Animals will take on the energy of their human companion. For domesticated animals — particularly companion animals — they understand the family systems and how to relate with their different humans. Wild animals constantly communicate through energy. Think of wolf packs or elephants who send messages through the ground. The winged ones are tuned to Earth's magnetic field and have inner compasses to orient themselves.

This week we learn about light from the animals.

Swimmers of all shapes and sizes teach how to maintain emotional balance and control no matter what depth of emotion we're swimming through.

Crawlers know the Earth intimately, and teach how to be in a more harmonious relationship with the Earth (your body).

Four-leggeds teach about how to walk in balance. They are sensitive to the vibrations they receive from the earth, observing their behavior we learn wise ways to survive.

The Winged ones are messengers that fly in the spaces between the “As above” and the “So Below”. The eagle is known as the messenger of great spirit, carrying our prayers and returning with great spirit’s intent for us

This is a mindfulness practice, a simple moment of connection with intentional curiosity to experience the light energy within swimmers, crawlers, four-legged and winged ones by activating the senses and encouraging personal growth and discovery. Nature always orients to light, and will compassionately interact with and respond to you. It will reflect your light, such that you may find it within yourself.

This can be done outside in nature on a walk, or sitting in a garden or inside looking at a picture of an animal. This can be done once or several times throughout the week with different animals each time.

Beginning by setting an intention. Energy flows where intention and attention goes.

Recite the verse:

The Third Light of Advent is the Light of Animals

The light that shines in the greatest and the least

State out loud or quietly to yourself that like nature, you're honoring the rhythm and cycles by turning inward — anticipating the return of the light on the Winter Solstice. You are a seeker of light with a desire to learn about the light from animals.

  • Allow your attention to be drawn to an animal that comes into your line of sight, or hearing.

  • Speak aloud or softly to yourself. .

  • Say hello to the animal. Let it know you are curious about what it knows about light. Ask it to teach you about light in pictures, words or sensations.

  • Allow yourself to be open and receptive. Responses can come quickly and can be either subtle or obvious. The information may come through any of the following:

    • your physical senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing)

    • internal senses (what's happening within your body)

    • intuitive senses (sensing images, seeing colors or symbols, feeling physical sensations, hearing messages as well as clear knowing)

    • emotional senses

  • Acknowledge whatever you receive.

    • For example: “Thank you squirrel. I felt warmth radiating from my solar plexus.”

    • Keep the conversation going  by asking clarifying questions.  For example:  “Is this warmth related to the way you so joyously race up and down trees?”

  • If you feel you are not receiving anything, ask the animal to turn up the volume on the response and communicate it in a way that your body can understand.

  • Keep breathing, receiving, acknowledging and engaging until you feel complete.

  • Place a hand on your heart, turn your attention inward and ask your body what new understanding it has of light from this item.

  • Then say out loud. "I connected and learned this  _________________ about the light from this animal. My experience is real and true because I experienced it.”

  • Thank the animal for sharing its wisdom and thank your body for being receptive.

  • Take a moment to journal about your new understanding of the light.

Remember that you are part of nature, and when you are outside you dance with her. Nature is happy to have you home and will compassionately interact and respond to you. The perfect animal messenger may attract your attention in response to thoughts or wonders at any moment. When one catches your attention, pause and see it as a messenger just for you.
