PSA from the Animals: Tips to be a better roommate during Quarantine April 2020

4/14/2020

During great pause that we are all experiencing comes with so many lessons and often the animals are the messengers.  The animals are masters at reading energy, intention and attention for they are present  and in their bodies 24/7 and tuned in to the overall energy field. The general theme that is being delivered by the animals  for April  is about practicing Basic Energetic Hygiene.   The messages are being delivered through the lens of tough love and asking you to up your game.    Below is a PSA from the animals:

Hello my dear person,

Please wake up and start taking responsibility for what you are doing with your attention and your energy. Clean up your act and stop being a sloppy energetic roommate who is leaving your frustrations, angst and emotions all over the place.  In the past I was able to hold space for you when you came home from work and that was okay because I could help reorient you and then we would go move together or snuggle. But now it's like a roller coaster and you are off gassing all sorts of energy everywhere and it is piling up.

I am curious why are you so afraid of just feeling what’s going on with you and allowing it to ripple through you.  Grieve, scream, cry, yell if you have to. By allowing the emotion to be energy in motion and expressing itself it will move  through your body. Instead of when you go into a tantrum or spin out in a story and energy and emotions start flying and landing all over the place that sit like piles of poo or energetic hot spots all over the house.  Hey,  I use the litter box or go outside to do my business.   I am asking you to be responsible and  mindful where you leave your poop piles and pick them up and throw them away.

Also I implore you to come up with some clearing practice to  clear out the energy that comes flooding into the space from Zoom and other devices.  After your meetings on the computer, energetically  it's  like all those people are in the house lingering around . And to top it off its like you left the building because you are not in your body - all your energy is in your head.  Please do something to get back in your body and  create a routine to clear out the energy.

I suggest you literally stand up and walk these people out the door.  Then turn your attention to reorienting to being in your body before engaging in this thing you call work. For example, I shake off energy after playing with another dog.  Or you may notice that I groom myself immediately after being petted. This is to rid myself of your scent and smooth my coat back to the way I like it.

Perhaps you could wash your hands or go outside and feel your feet on the earth and notice what you hear or see - be present to where you are right now.

It seems you are not leaving any time soon and by taking responsibility for your energy and being mindful will help the flow in the house.  I do enjoy having you around.  And I am asking you to clean up your act so I can get back to relaxing.  Energy flows where intention and attention goes.

Thank you for reading this and putting some of my suggestions into practice.

I love you!

PSA from Animals: Being Present Right NOW

3/17/2020

The following is a Public Service Announcement from the animals:
My sweet human please become aware of what you are paying attention to.  When you listen to the news, spend time on your computer or your smartphone and surround yourself with so much negative fear based energy it starts seeping into our home, into your mind and then I can’t feel you or my connection to your heart.   You are no longer present in the moment and I start acting out to bring your attention back to the moment.

I can teach you about being present in the moment right now, and again right now in this moment.
First shake off that energy by doing what I do, shaking my whole body like when I am wet, or sweeping you hands over all parts of your body imagining your hands are cleaning off the energy like I do when I groom myself. I think this would be good for you because I often do this after being stressed, excited or anxious  to regain a sense of balance or peace.
Now, come sit with me!  Feel your body touching the furniture - listen to my breathing, see if you can match your breathing to mine.   Look at my fur, scales or skin. What do you notice about it that you have never noticed before? Breath be here now with me. Please don’t go to your thoughts, because we lose connection. Stay in your feeling body.   Feel my fur, scales or skin - pause and really feel it see if you can let the information come up through your fingertips. Breathe.
Tell me anything about your day, tell me what weighs on your heart, tell me your fears, tell me your wins, tell me your plans.  I can feel it all, all that you aren’t saying and it confuses me because it runs like a river in the background and there is a lot more energy in this river of suppression than the words you say that don’t match it.  When you speak it aloud it helps keep the energy flowing. Say what you want to say, let the words fall out and keep breathing.  Feel my fur. Feel my presence. Feel my love!  Right here, right now.

Please keep doing this till your breathing is normal, till you can feel your body.  I invite you, actual I implore you to do this practice  numerous times throughout the day. Even when we are apart, pause and breathe, call me to you and feel our heart connection. Breath I love you! Anytime we are together please practice being with me in the moment!

Now my sweet person let me tell you the energy that comes into the house through the tv, the videos, the phone, the computer it can get trapped in our  house and is making me crazy and unhealthy. You have the ability to leave and come back - I am here a lot in this house and I feel the energy.  Please start doing energetic hygiene around the house by clearing this energy and tuning the house to what your intention is for this house and our family.  I want you to make sure your intention includes presence, love, and harmony. Let’s have our living space support us in being healthy and well. Thank you for reading this and doing what I have requested.  I love you!

 The animals have spoken!
Now it's up to you,

Spirit Animals and why they show up?

8/14/2019

Each of us come into this lifetime with a whole circle of spiritual resources which include guides, guardian angels, spirit animals and so on.  This circle of resources is your own personal posse that is always listening to you.  They like to help you as often as possible , daily if you allow them by providing  protection, guidance and healing.

Spirit Animals are guides from your circle of resources that come in animal form to teach or deliver a message.  They are often referred to as power animals, animal guides and they are all one in the same.   It is believed that animals are receivers of energy and become mirrors for you to learn about yourself.  The spirit animal that appears for you is bringing your their sweet "medicine" in the form of guidance, wisdom, teachings, power or protection.
PicturePhoto by Ray Hennessy on Unsplash

Since your circle of spiritual resources works with you daily the spirit animals that appear to you may be different everyday depending on what is up for you.  The animals are teachers of balance and harmony in life.  They are responding to the energy of your feelings, beliefs and thoughts where you may be out of balance and offering guidance, healing or wisdom.  Often they appear when you are searching for clarity, need guidance, affirming a power action, or they bring into consciousness something your soul already knows.  Basically, they are listening and the animal that shows is spot on for that day, moment, event, experience etc.

The way a spirit  animals shows up varies.  You may have a physical encounter with one like walking in the woods or in your neighborhood, or it swoops over you car.   You may have one as a pet.  You may see the image of them everywhere you look - in the clouds, in the store, on billboards.  It may visit you in your dreams or come to you while meditating or daydreaming.  Or you may exhibit certain qualities of the animal such as going mama bear at the playground.

When you realize its a spirit animal for you.  Pause and thank it for showing up.  Put your hand on your heart (its the quickest way to access your intuition) breathe and ask why it is showing up for you.  What is it's message?  Then listen with your heart, your mind, your ears, your inner knowing.  Ask as many questions as you like.  They are willing to have a conversation with you.

The spirit animal may also be offering you a reflection of some of your characteristics.  Take time exploring and  learn as much as you can about them their diet, behavior, habitat, lifestyle.  Staying present and attentive to yourself during this inquiry listening for what resonates with you and how their "medicine" can bring balance and harmony into your life.

Here is an example of a spirit animal showing up for me. I have a very active mole in my yard.  This is during a time for me where I am turning inward to uncover and release old traumas to step into the fullness of me. Daily I am
open to the teachings as I am raking the mole hills into the grass and the garden beds.  What I am learning is that bringing to the surface what has been buried for decades creates space and feeds the rest of life - like the upturned soil is doing from my grass and garden.

Remember your circle of resources is always listening.
The animals that appear may be a spirit animal delivering a message.

Invitation to the dance of Life

Ahhh late July-early August is the time of year that the Chinese culture refers to as the 5th Season which is late summer between the height of summer and before the drop into autumn.  A time that is full of possibility. A pregnant pause that is ripe with the fullness of life where things are just more, more…… and life extends an invitation to each of us to join in the dance of life simply by being - not doing - by being ourselves in our  fullness.

This fifth season resonates with the compassionate  accepting space animals live in where life is lived in the moment whether it is the ball to chase, the itch to be scratched, the bug to pounce on or their people to be with.   They welcome their humans just as they are tired, joyful, depressed, confused, content.  The animals do not demand people to change. Their compassionate acceptance welcomes the connection and invites the fullness of  who you are in that moment .

This fifth season is also an excellent time to observe wild animals in the many activities of their lives. Teaching young ones to fly, hunting and gathering of food, claiming territory through elaborate dances or just simply being the snail that is crossing the path during a forest stroll.

Picture
The animals offer many teachings about presence and being in this season of fullness and the dance of life.  Simply by finding the silence within and observing them the teachings are available whether its a domesticated animal or a wild animal or insect.   Slow down and be in the moment and allow your whole body to be receptive listening and observing with your ears, eyes, smell, feelings. This is a place of remembering - remembering that your body already knows how to connect with nature and the animals you did it as a kid.

Listen from this place and observe what stirs within you.    What sensations or thoughts or emotions bubble up? How does their wildness speak to your wildness?   Curiously ask a question and see if you can receive a response. Either a general question about being that particular animal.  Or perhaps a question about what is coming up for you. Then listen with your whole body - Animal Communication happens really quickly so be open and receptive to whatever you get.    It may be a taste, a feeling, a sensation, a word, a smell, an image.

It is here in the sacred act of presence that the dance of life really begins.

Learning self-reliance from Herons

Today I lead an Animal Experience to the Heron Rookery.  This is an opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat while holding an intention or a curiosity of learning about life from them.

While researching  Herons as a totem I listened to my body to feel what resonated with me and then  formulated it into an intention - a curiosity to learn from the Herons.  Here is what resonated:

Heron symbolism is asking you to follow your path and not those of your peers.
In other words, heron meaning is asking you to find unconventional ways
to be self-reliant and productive.
Picture
xThe Heron Rookery overlooks the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.  Boat traffic is going in and out all day long from the Puget Sound to the fresh water of Lake Union and Lake Washington.  There are 25 heron nests high up in alder trees swaying with the wind in various stages of construction  .  Holding my intention of wanting to learn self-reliance I observed a pair of herons who were adding new twigs to their nest.  The gatherer heron would stand on the edge of the nest open his wings and glide forty feet down and over to the same tree to gather twigs.  For his return he launched himself into a graceful half circle to alight on the branch of the nest and tight walk over to his mate.  Usually there would be an elaborate welcome of necks extending and beaks raised to the sky before the twig was exchanged and tucked into the nest.  They would be with eachother looking at the nest and then off he would go again.

The gathering Heron taught me about how self-reliance can be effortless and easy. It does not need to be hard and exhausting. The receiving Heron taught me about celebrating and acknowledging the effort. As well as accepting the resource and putting it to use. The pair taught me about being, pausing and being. Then letting the moment inform the next action needed. And then effortlessly letting the energy flow into the next self-reliant action.

What a delightful way to start the morning and allowing the teaching to ripple through me day. Thank you Herons! The web of life is always engaging with us for we are all interconnected.

The web of life is always  engaging with us.

How does your beloved animal companion express their love?

2/1/2019

Why do we share  our lives with animals?
What do they add to our lives that has us so devoted to them?
PicturePhoto credit: Shockingly Tasty on Visualhunt / CC BY-SA

Humans express their love to their animal companions in so many ways.  Getting the best food possible, walking them, playing with them, brushing them, taking them to the vet, snuggling with them, training them, cleaning up after them,  making sure they have enough mental stimulation  and the list goes on and on.  Why do we put so much time, effort, attention and love into these furry beings?

I believe its the unconditional loving presence that they hold for us.
No matter which way you show up they are there to just be with you. You! You just as you are! They meet you where you are at:
  • in your grumpy after work attitude
  • in your pity party victim mode
  • in your frenzy of trying to get everything on the todo list completed
  • in your life is great
  • in relaxing and chilling out mode
  • or in your the struggle is real mode

They are not asking you to shake it off or change your attitude and yet being around them your energy may shift.  Scientifically this is because they are releasing oxytocin the bonding hormone.

Animals are excellent teachers of being present.
They are present in the moment not thinking about the squirrel at the park that outsmarted them, or the hiss the neighbor cat threw their way.  They are in the moment.  Seeing you, being with you, loving your for being you in whichever way you show up.  Gifting you with a great template to love and accept yourself.

Since animals are teachers of being present and embodied.  I invite you to take a moment to allow your sweet one to show you how much he/she loves you.
Pause... breathe.... settle into you body... taking a few deep breaths to connect with your heart.  Then gently imagine a beautiful river of love flowing from your heart to their heart.
Then ask them how much they love you?
Animal communication happens really quickly so be open and aware of the first feeling, thought, sensation, smell, image or emotion that appears.
Allow that to be the answer without much thought.
Sit with the sensation for a few breathes.
Acknowledge your body for the great job listening and then you can send love back to them.

Enjoy being present and allowing in the expressions of unconditional love.

Salmon as Teachers: Navigating the river of life

11/11/2018

Picture
Learning from the Salmon in a group lead experience this past Sunday the salmon provided many meaningful takeaways for each participant.  Witnessing the salmon in the final cycle of their life we gleaned a lot about how to navigate our own lives no matter what phase of life we are in.  The creek offers great viewing of the salmon in many stages of the spawning  drive to go up the river, in the slow pools resting and acclimating,  to flowing 3-inch water where the majority of the fish body is out of the water, to fallen logs that create channels for rushing water  and the salmon must jump over to continue the journey.
The day was clear and crisp with many people out to view the salmon as we wound our way along the bank we could hear cheers, like at a football game,  for a salmon that had just navigated a treacherous part of the creek.  This led to a reflection to celebrate our own steps toward a goal as well as to allow the resting and the acclimation for where you are at after expending that energy.   A reorientation and an acknowledgment of the journey.
Also, the vigor and determination with which these salmon move to complete this cycle of life to ensure future generations offered a different reflection then how the majority of humans meet the last years of life.
The bank of the creek is littered with salmon who have completed the mission and now lay decomposing feeding the forest with their nutrients.  One particular female salmon had her belly slit open and thousands of eggs lay exposed.  This brought tears to my eyes for the unfilled potential for having come so far and not be able to complete her mission.  For me, it was a good reflection of how in the past during a project I would just give up mid-project turning away from what I truly wanted because the path seemed too hard.  Seeing the eggs exposed and wasted really hit home on the loss of the possibility of creation with each of those eggs representing for me an idea, a connection, a missed opportunity when I gave up and therefore perpetuating my own struggle with life.
The salmon returning home offers insight into the interconnection of life.

Animal Communication: Feeling a color

5/18/2018

Picture
Last Thursday was a morning of fog, a good soft day, a fog that settles in for a visit.  On my walk, I was enjoying a visual delight: how the thick fog makes a brilliant  backdrop for the vibrant greens bursting forth in exuberance, a rich tapestry woven with greens of the leaves announcing the tulips, the lush green grass, the tender green of new growth on the dark evergreens and the rusty greens of the freshly unfurled ferns. All of this, a feast for the eyes. My nervous system quieted down bathed in this sensory delight which sparked a thought of. “Can I easily transmit these sensations of green telepathically?”

One of the exercises we practice in my  Animal Communication Basics class is sending colors back and forth to each other.  In the exercise I guide students to feel the color.  A student asked me “What does that mean to feel a color?”  As we explored what that could mean we came to the understanding that to feel a color is using all the senses and transmitting those sensations through our ever present telepathic tools –  our bodies.
For example, when sending the color green instead of thinking  “Like walking in nature in spring”- imagine the forest focusing on the five senses – touch, sight smell, hearing, taste.  Send the sensation of how it feels touching grass or the tulip leaves, see the ferns, the tulips, and the grass; what does it sound like walking in nature – can you hear birds calling, dogs barking or a lawn mower. Can you taste green? A pickle, asparagus.  Send feelings like how your nervous system and body feel when walking in all this green – does it feel settled and peaceful?
Taking this a step further, when sending a communication to the animals it is helpful to feel what you are trying to say by employing all of the senses to communicate to the animal; not just words.  For example, when walking I want to feel safe.  I tell my dog this because he has numerous nemesis in the neighborhood and they like to challenge each other which, in turn, doesn’t make me feel safe.  Or when he goes off-leash and he explores the homeless camps in the parks, I do not feel safe.  Just saying the word “Safe” was not getting through to him and then I realized  I wasn’t utilizing all of the senses.

This began a fun playful game with my body understanding what it feels like to be “safe”.  The data I have collected so far from my body about what Safe feels like is: my nervous system and body are at ease;  I feel calm;  I am aware and alert. Safe for me is seeing nature – trees, the Puget Sound. I hear my regular breathing and birds singing. I taste a delicious cup of chicken soup. I am safe.

So, before starting our walks I pause and conjure up all these feelings, sensations, images of “safe” and allow them to flow from me to him.  I verbally say, “Let’s go have a safe adventure.”  After this exchange, if we meet a nemesis or if he ventures into the homeless camp, I amplify the feelings of safety — broadcasting them from my body and he settles and walks past the nemesis or returns from scavenging at the homeless camps much quicker, not requiring me to go down there and retrieve him.

As you can see, animal communication is a full body experience.  The animals communicate on a variety of lines of communication also using all the five senses.  You may get the feeling of thirst, or get the image of your dog drinking water or feel excited for cold refreshing water  and then realize the water bowl needs filling,  and your dog is eagerly awaiting to drink.  Feeling is communicating with the animals by using all of your senses.

Animals as teachers: Waiting for Big Dog

4/25/2018

In this year of the Yellow Earth Dog, there has been an opportunity to learn from the Earth Dogs.  The other morning I had a magical experience with the Big Dog in my favorite woods.  These woods are magic – like most woods – but these woods are in Seattle, surrounded by urban neighborhoods, among the ferns and cedars, next to streams and creeks that welcome the return of the salmon in the winter.  These are the woods where my son, at age 1, demanded to be taken out of the backpack so he could hike the familiar trails during nettle season. The nettles were taller than him and magically he did not get stung once though my legs were getting stung as I followed behind him.  Thank you, fairies!  My son is 19 now and I have walked these woods weekly and delight in the familiarity of them as well as the newness of each returning season. I have had many, many magical encounters with nature.

Part of the loop I do, the trail makes a half circle through a grove of cedar and pine with the ferns creating a ruffly understory.  This particular morning, as I came to the middle of the half-circle, I could hear classical music playing and there sitting on a log in a beam of sunlight was a man clutching a very relaxed jacketed chihuahua.  He pronounced proudly  “Hello!  We are waiting for the Big Dog!”  the classical music emphasized the proclamation.  The reverence and awe with which he shared his news I felt as if he was Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin.  Who could be this Big Dog?  Was this Big Dog going to share wisdom about life? Or bring long-awaited presents like Linus hoped for?  I paused to drink in the scene.  I wanted to behold this Big Dog who has music playing for his entrance and part of the welcoming party.

My dogs had gone on without me and were circling back to check on my whereabouts when we heard branches breaking.  Out of the ferns emerged a Big Dog with tongue hanging out and smiling from ear to ear.  We all cheered at her arrival – she bounded forth greeting all of us with enthusiasm and interest.  And then they all turned and went the other way – was that real – did I meet the Big Dog?  Was there wisdom or a gift I had received? Yes, there was.  It was a moment of time to cherish a blessing to witness how an animal and their human take delight in each other’s existence.  This man and Big Dog showed me how allowing each other the time to explore and run wild as well as being comfortable in waiting kept the connection to each other fluid, opening and loving.

Creating Healthy Boundaries

4/18/2018

Picture
I have been quiet for the month of April, taking a break from posting on social media.  I chose to really listen deeply to my own heart and strengthen the muscle of tuning to my vibration and to keep the focus on my dream and how I can contribute to the greater good.  It has been an interesting month of lessons through many reflections from my guides.  The thing about my guides is they know me well such as I love games, am a big fan of scavenger hunts, and I love to receive messages while out in the natural world.

This morning  I set out on my walk with asking my guides for a reflection of where my growing edge was for today.
As I enjoyed my walk through the kaleidoscope of green in the explosion of spring in the forest, I was full of gratitude for this particular bit of earth that I have walked on for over 25 years.  Each season brings wonder and delight to me and my senses.
Since I live in Seattle, with a population of roughly around 760,000 these parcels of wilderness are a blessing. The parks department are always trying to find the balance between people, dogs, and respecting nature.  Currently, these trails are frequented by many people who walk their dogs off-leash instead of taking them into the corraled official dog park.  The City has been doing a great job of replanting a much-eroded hill by many dogs running up and down it chasing balls and each other.  Recently, they put up a fence to keep the dogs on the paths for us who choose to still walk the dogs off the leash.
As I crested the rise to where the fence begins, to my dismay, it was partially knocked down and there was a friend inspecting the damage.  As he left muttering about rude dog people who don’t respect the great effort of the city,  my heart hurt a little.  This fence had created a rift in the community that would meet in the mornings in the unofficial dog park where dogs run with wild abandon as we walk together and witness each others’ lives.  I did not think it was afternoon dog people who had knocked down the fence – on further inspection the weight of the fence had snapped the last pole and down came the rest.  Luckily only one pole had broken and low and behold there was a pole tamper lying under the down fence.
I was at a choice point here. Do I…:
  • Walk on by and let someone else fix this – trying to point blame and deepen the rift?  Feeding the negative energy?
  • Or contribute to the effort of a healthy boundary to help weave the web of balance between nature, people, and animals.  Then I burst out laughing HERE WAS THE MESSAGE FROM MY GUIDES and they even left me a tool to do the work.
So I jumped right in and started pulling up the heavy fence and using the tamping tool to drive the poles in.  After struggling with the first two poles, I understood the problem of why the fence came down.  The poles had only been driven into freshly distributed woody mulch – which was not a very stable foundation for the fence.  To make a difference, the poles need to reach the solid earth underneath.  After struggling with the first two poles and having 5 more to go,  I started praying and letting nature and my guides know I needed help in human form to help hold up the fence as I worked.   I was going to go see if I could find someone down the path.  The dogs and I set off to find able bodies and of course I saw two of the regular morning walkers.
We set to work and as a team of three women, we worked pole by pole –  unbinding the fence from the pole then driving the poles deeper into the earth so they were solidly held.  Then we stretched the fence to the next downed pole and repeated the process.  Lucky for us, there was an extra pole laying around to replace the snapped pole.  I asked the tree that the last pole was very close to where the best location for the pole would be to avoid damaging its root and the place we were directed to the pole went in smoothly and held securely – thank you, tree.
We had replaced the fence back to its full glory – setting a healthy boundary for dogs and people and I had a great reflection in response to my request from my guides of where was my growing edge for today.
Healthy boundaries with a strong foundation and asking for help from people.
Each of us has a whole spiritual team and guides who are willing to give us guidance and reflections if you ask – I find it adds a great deal of fun to life.  I encourage you to start asking questions and be open to reflections and answers in the most unexpected ways!
