Share Holiday Plans with Animal Companions

As you are gearing up for the holidays and making plans, to do lists, menus, guest lists, or travel plans? Are your beloved animal companions in the loop of what is going on?

Here are some simple ways to make sure your animals know what’s happening…

If you’re traveling and they’re staying home – tell them the plans. Like when you’re talking with a friend, let them know about the trip; why you’re going, who you’re seeing, what you're doing while gone. They understand time better by meals than days and nights. Calendars aren’t their thing. Let  them know the number of days until you leave by how many meals until you leave, how many meals you’ll be gone, etc. You could even tell them who is taking care of them and how long this person will be staying.

Are you hosting Thanksgiving at home? Having guests overnight at the house? Let them know in advance who the guests are, how many meals until they arrive, and for how many meals they’re staying (animal meals, not human meals). Where will the person be sleeping? How will having these people around alter their daily routine? Start sharing with them the whole holiday plan: all the details, people, schedule, menu, etc.  Include when they will be tended to, as well as how you want them to behave when people come over.  The more you share about what’s going on, the happier they will be.

If you’ll be gone for the day, let them know. Again, tell them where you’ll be going, what you’ll be doing, and when you’ll be coming home.

Animals read energy. Our energy fields are constantly interacting with theirs, but we are the householders, so it’s like their bubble of energy is constantly adjusting to the energy fields of everyone in the home. Around holidays and big events things shift energetically and disrupt their routine. Talking with them as soon as plans are made gives them the opportunity to adjust ahead of time.  The more relaxed they are, the more relaxed you and your guests are!
