![]() Sheltering in place has its ups, downs, insides out and outsides in moments for all of us - humans and the companion animals as well. Each of us is experiencing and responding differently to the rollercoaster ride of life right now and this includes the animals. Recently there have been reports in mainstream media about how “Companion animals acting strange and odd.” These media outlets' theory is that since people are home they are actually witnessing the oddity and strangeness in their animals that’s always been there. I am offering another theory: This seemingly “odd / strange” behaviour of your pet is a sign, like the canaries in the coal mines, that something is seriously amiss with the energy in the house. The animals are receivers of energy. Remember times when you have felt sick or just “down” and your animal companion came to curl up beside you and “made you feel better.” Animals will take on the energy of their human companion or the energy in the house. The animals are also great teachers of balance and harmony. From the animals' viewpoint there is a lot going on energetically within the home - so many extra people and pieces trying to be balanced - work, kids, homeschooling, unemployment, chaos in the collective, the unknown what the future holds., fear of Corona etc. For the health of the family your animals will do what is necessary to bring attention to what is out of balance in the house or the family dynamics. In their attempt to get the energy of the house back to a calm coherent state, they might also be absorbing the energy. This can result in odd behaviors, acting out, marking, pooping in appropriate places, aggression that appears out of nowhere - please add in your animals interesting quirks. Physical problems can also arise from absorbing too much energy that overloads their entire nervous systems. Problems can be vast and varied; it may include digestion problems, excessive itching, over grooming etc. Basically they are a live wire with so much energy going through them and they are trying to ground it. In the coal mines if the canaries started fainting or died the miners knew it was time to get out. ![]() If your sweet animal is acting out or getting sick it may be time to analyze what is going on within your home or within you. Is there harmony and balance? What is out of balance? What simple steps can you take to bring balance and harmony into the home?
